I ordered a pair of speakers that were "compatible" with my car. They were the same size, and crutchfield told me that they would fit my car no problem. I even called customer support for specific directions and they told me what I needed to do. So 3 hours ago I took the door panel off to find out that the speakers didn't fit at all. The screw holes were too big and the included "adapter" did aboslutely nothing. The mastersheet is extremely vague, and even tells me to use a screwdriver where I needed a socket wrench. I am now stuck with a loose door panel because I lost a screw amoung the plethora provided to me to make these speakers "fit". This is very unsatisfactory. I will be returning these speakers and I will not be doing buisness with crutchfield again. I will now have to pay circuit city to install some speakers, but at least they have a clue as to what they are doing.

Might be nice if you mentioned what kind of car so CF can update their database if required.  (Found your previous thread - 94 Taurus - should be 5x7's or 6x8's, I think)

Confused, you should have been using the original screws, you might have had to drill new pilot holes if they didn't line up.

and even tells me to use a screwdriver where I needed a socket wrench.

Mine said that too - but it's also pretty obvious.  I've also known Ford to change from Philips to hex head mid-model year, so ...

Not sure how that one is CF's fault.

I hope you're right, but I wouldn't count on that.

My only experiences with big box store installs ended up in missing screws and a cigarette lighter that never worked again. Then again, there was sound.
