I have a 2002 Chevy Silverado Crew Cab. It currently has the factory sound system, but I will be upgrading it in the near future.
Here's where I "divide by zero" - What in the world do I do with the factory cassette player that is stand alone mounted in the center console??? The cassette player has never been used, and never will be. This same portion of the console also contains a somewhat useful cubby hole/rack designed to hold about 5 CD's.
Does someone make a replacement unit that provides a useful purpose? Or am I stuck looking at a waste of prime center console space?
Thanks for your help!
yes i have the same problem in my 99" chevy and what i came to realize( help from these forums) that you really cant do anything about the cassette so i just recommend leaving it.... yes i know its very tacky but o welll........ hey I'm kinda new at this stuff so don't quote me I'm probly wrong but its worth the old collage try
I could be wrong, but I think Chevy usually made a pocket to go in the dash for trucks that did not have the cassette/CD stereo.
(Also, on some Chevy's, the install kit I think puts the new HU in place of the cassette, which leaves you needing to figure out something to do with the CD/Radio).
I don't know if it would be worth what the dealer charges for the pocket, or how likely a junkyard would be to have one, though, or how easily you could improvise something yourself.
