If the tweeters do have their own amp built onto them, then it would only be possible to replace them if you also installed an aftermarket amp to power them. I did that once for the rear doors of a 1997 VW Passat sedan and it worked out well. There were stock tweeter locations in the rear doors, but they were too small for mine. So, while it is not the best location for the tweeter, the install went pretty smoothly and the sound was nice. HTH!
