  • Blu-ray sound formats and receiver compatibility

Here's my situation: I've got a PS3 that I'm currently running though an older component video receiver. I'm typically "in the know" when it comes to home theater and electronics terminology, but recently my head is spinning with all the talk of compressed, uncompressed, decoding...

  • Re: blue ray playback

Hello CBJ. If I understood your question correctly, your blu-ray player is probably set to linear PCM output ( LPCM ) which means the audio decoding is taking place in the blu-ray player. If your receiver has the HD type decoding built-in, you will need set your blu-ray player to the bitstream output...

  • Re: HDMI version 1.2a versus version 1.3

Dave it shouldn't be the cabling causing this issue. As a troubleshooting idea: You could try a different HDMI1.3 cable (assuming that your current HDMI cable is 1.3 as well.) However, I would venture that the reciver is not activating the TrueHD capability or the BDVD isn't spitting out the TrueHD format...

  • High Defintion Player

I have a Sony 65" 1080i DLP and Onkyo 7.1 TX-SR506 connect to my HTPC under WinXP, it is not the best of the word, but pretty decent sound when i play BR disc in my HTPC... I really want to hear DTS-HD 7.1 sound with my Onkyo, but i think I got a problem with my HTPC of supporting DTS-HD... I have a...

  • What is 'Anynet' and how do I stop it?

I recently purchased a Denon 3808CI to go along with my Samsung LNT4061 and Panasonic BD30 and began having this problem: I am watching a Blu Ray and pause it. Then when I either switch the input on the TV (from HDMI to TV for example), or turn the TV off, the TV says "disconnecting Anynet device" and...

  • Need help deciding between onkyo receiver/HTiB, first timer

So aside from my computer 5.1 setup I haven't really had much experience in the home theater area. I am looking to purchase a respectable system and have narrowed it down to two options but can't decide which would be better for myself. I have a 55'' vizio along with a ps3. I can't decide between getting...

  • Re: Blu Ray vs Upconvert

To me, it'll depend on your upconverted signal. 720p, 1080i or is it a 1080p "converted" picture? My guess is 1080i and in that case, than blu-ray would be the next step as far as clarity goes. Is it necessary? It's really going to be up to you. I skipped the upconverting section so that I could go right...

  • Can I get Loss-Less audio through 5.1

I have a 7.1 channel Denon receiver which decodes all the latest "Loss-Less" audio formats. But I only have it set up as a 5.1 channel system. I also have a blu-ray. Am I going to miss out on a lot of the audio that these new formats have to offer because I am not using the full 7.1 channels?

  • Re: HT - Upgrade

I totally agree with JerSully, you made a couple very nice purchases. The Onkyo AVR packs plenty of features into a nice (and budget friendly) package. And the Blu-Ray should let you enjoy HD content to its fullest. Holding out for the speakers is not a bad idea either... You just never know whats going...
