Hi -- I've just gotten and installed a Pioneer DEH-P3000IB head unit into a Honda CRV. I have two questions in one convenient posting.

1. I load a CD burned with MP3's and enable random play mode. When one track ends, the stereo advances to a randomly selected track. That's good. BUT...if I manually hit "next" either using the multi-control or the remote, the receiver advances to the next track in sequence, rather than randomly. This is annoying. Am I missing something? Is this a bug and, if so, do higher-end Pioneer models behave this same way? The way I see it, if I am in random/shuffle mode, the stereo should advance randomly, whether naturally or when the user manually advances/skips a track.

2. Do all (or most) Pioneer head units share the same factory wiring plug? I have soldered the wiring plug included with the P3000IB to a wiring harness that plugs into the Honda factory harness (of course). If I upgrade this head unit, it would be nice to be able to simply use the Pioneer plug+wiring harness combo I have already soldered together.

well, the 1st question i cant help you with i never play my cds on random. The 2nd question I believe they are the same not 100% but I have had a few pioneer decks and they were the same. Maybe it goes by year or something.

Q1 - Not missing anything - Pioneer's do that.  Don't know why.  I know the 2007 models did (likely previous also) and you just confirmed the 2008 model does.  I don't think higher end models behave differently, but haven't extensively researched it.  Users gripe about it ALOT in the CF reviews tab so you can probably find out pretty quickly there.

Q2 - Probably, but I couldn't swear to it - there might be a dimmer wire on some harnesses that are missing on others.  Unfortunately, other than comparing the wire colors and shape of the new connector with your existing one, there is no good way to verify this - the instructions won't show connector shape or pin numbering.

If the dimmer wire is the only difference, I don't need to be hooked up. I think on mine all it does is turn on the lights when the radio is off. (when the lights are on)

It should make the display and the button lights less bright when the headlights are on as well.

It does, but the difference is so small (at least, on my old P6000UB), I don't think it's worth going through the trouble of replacing the wiring harness just to gain that feature.

Also, the random is like that on all Pioneer's I've used. What I used to do is tap Back once and then hold Back for about a second so the head unit would go back to the last few seconds of the previous song. When it finished playing, it would pick out a song at random. A bit of a hassle, but it did work.

I think some of them let you adjust the day/night brightness, but that might not have been a Pioneer feature - I agree though - likely not worth swapping out a harness over.
