Porting a Sealed Subwoofer Box Help!

I'm looking to add some more depth to my subwoofer by porting the sub box I currently have. The sub is an Alpine SWR-1042D in a sealed inclosure (9.25x13.5x19.5) which I purchased from a store which equals about 1.1ft3. Reading all of the other forums I realize that if this is done wrong it can ruin the sound of the subwoofer. Right now it doesn't sound bad just I know it can sound deeper then it is, and the box is in a reg cab truck so every little bit I can squeeze out of my audio system I am trying to do so.

The reason I have hope is because the Alpine website specs for an optimum ported inclosure are not to far off of the size and air volume of the sealed inclosure I have now (its volume is actually more then the recommended for a sealed sub box for this subwoofer). Here are the Alpine specs:

    Vented Box Volume Range (gross) = 0.6 – 1.25 ft 3

This is the optimum Vented Box measurements they list:

    Box Dimensions = 12.5 x 14.5 x 17.25

    Volume: 1.3ft3

    Vent area (dimensions): 11 inches square (11 x 1)

    Vent Length: 22inches

    Vent Displacement: .237 ft3

    Net internal  Volume: 1ft3

    F3 ripple, Fb:  30hz, 2.8db, 35hz

Basically I want a more educated opinion on putting a port into my box, the length size, and if it should be done at all. Also not sure if this matters but when looking at the sub box the sub is completely on the right side of the box, not centered, so I assumed to put the port in the left side bottom to top or out the back. Please help. Thanks

I think it would be much easier to build a new box rather than try to modify the old one. If it was glued properly in the first place you shouldn't be able to get it apart.

Would he need to get it apart?

Couldn't he just remove the sub, drill a hole, and glue in a PVC tube or similar?

I'm not a box-building expert and I could well be missing something obvious!!!

No way I would take it apart, just use a hole saw depending on the port diameter. I'm just wondering if it is a good idea to do or not, right now seems to technical and it would be a shame to ruin the box.
