    Some general questions

Hello all I've recently started spending a lot of time on this site. I'm a teenager and have worked all summer in order to get money for a sounds system for my car. I don't know much about car systems in general so I am getting lost a lot.

I have a 2001 Chevy Suburban. No bose, no onstar.

    So far I have purchased:

    Alpine IDA-x100 head unit

and all the parts to install this head unit.

I plan to buy these items:

    2 Sets of http://www.crutchfield.com/S-n6FWMOjYKmm/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?i=500SPS17C2&s=0&cc=01

for the front and back doors.

    And this subs kit: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-wnsE6zChQrw/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?i=236MB212P&s=0&cc=01

and of course the wiring kit and speaker wire.

Generally, is this a good idea? I'm not exactly made of money here and im trying to stay kind of low with my prices here. But all these items have great reviews. Is there anything else that I need to buy to make this setup better? Is that subs kit even worth it at all?

Also, I'm just afraid something is not going to be compatible or I will blow speakers because something is not powerful enough. (I have already blown my 2 front door factory speakers) Will the amp keep me from blowing these speakers?

Finally, any recommendations on where I should put the amp and/or subs in my suburban? i figure just both in the trunk...

I really don't know much so ANY input AT ALL would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry if people do this all the time because I hate to be that kind of guy.

    Thanks a lot

    Bryce

    Re: Some general questions

Are you going to run the door speakers off the head unit? (I'd recommend an amp since you are getting subs)

Your sub link doesn't work for me so I can't comment.

    Re: Some general questions

You may end up wanting to amp the door speakers later but that can always be added.

I'm not real familiar with Burbs but I think there is plenty of room under the back seats for an amp(s). And the best place for the subwoofer box would most likely be against the back of the back seats with the speakers facing the rear. Don't forget to get some hardware to fasten the box down!

    Re: Some general questions

I have read reviews on that sub package on some other sites and it looks like some people like it and some don't. The main issue was the amp overheating and shutting down or being just plain defective.

    Re: Some general questions

Do I need to buy a second amp for my speakers? like another one to go with the amp for my subs?

Im skeptical about buying that subs kit/amp because it just seems too cheap.

Well, you get what you pay for. With that package you're only talking about 125 watts each to two cheap twelves...in a sealed box no less...It's not gonna flex the roof. If you want to pony up more money then you can absolutely get better results.

There is a post under the amp section refering to that package you may want to see.

    Re: Some general questions

What are you looking for out of the system ....

The Alpine HU and those speakers are a good start, but a Suburban has a lot of space, so you might prefer more powerful speakers and an amp for the main speakers.

That might be enough for you if you just want good tunes and aren't heavily into bass.

The bass package will give you some decent low-end fill, but you could definitely get more volume with higher-end components - you would spend more though.
