In answer to your question about adding a new receiver to your 2003 Subaru Outback with the McIntosh audio system, the first thing you need to know is that the wiring harness adapter we have for aftermarket receivers will not cover the speaker wire connections. The factory amp cannot be simply integrated to the system, as you have to run speaker wire from the outputs on a new receiver directly to the speaker locations. And, the factory subwoofer will not function upon changing the factory radio. We simply don't have a way to easily integrate the factory audio package with a new receiver. I wish I had better news there. You may want to consult with a professional installer.
