I will be happy to help with your question on purchasing speakers for your 2001 Toyota MR2 Spyder. We have quite a few component systems with speakers that will fit the front doors with brackets we include with your purchase, but you'll need to re-drill the mounting screw holes. Please note that we don't filter tweeter locations and fit information in our "Outfit My Car" application. The reason for this is that aftermarket tweeters are rarely an easy "drop-in" replacement for factory tweeters, and you generally need to make a bracket or support the new tweeter.

Based on your listening preferences and the models with speakers listed to fit your vehicle, I recommend the Pioneer Premier TS-D720C 6-3/4" Component Speakers. These speakers are efficient (88 dB SPL), so they will sound terrific using the power output of your aftermarket stereo. At the same time, they can handle up to 60 watts RMS, so they will sound even better if you decide to add a separate amplifier at a later point.
 
You will need to remove the door panels in order to access the speaker locations. To make this easier, I recommend using a door panel removal tool. 

You can protect your speakers and improve bass response at the same time by installing them with XTC foam baffles.

While you are installing your new door speakers, I also recommend that you add some Dynamat to the door panels. Dynamat will reduce road noise and unwanted vibrations. We have a Dynamat speaker kit that is perfect for this application
