  • I PURCHASED HARMON 347 IN 1998. NO SOUND NOW AS OF FALL OF 2013. I had someone take a quick look see and his advice..get a new one! DO RECEIVERS DIE from over heating. Is 5 years a good life for my Harmon?

  • Five years isn't very good (which is what you asked, but was probably a typo), but fifteen years is actually doing pretty good. Electronics wear out over time, it just happens. Chances are, it'd cost as much or more to repair the unit than buy a reasonably decent surround system to replace it. With the age of the unit, there are many features that newer models offer that older models haven't.

    If you were able to repair the unit yourself, I'd say go for it, but paying a repair shop to do such, I honestly feel the money could be better spent.
