There are certainly a lot of opinions. Personally, i think transmission line enclosures have the best sound quality. I build primarily vented enclosures and tune them to take advantage of the individual's vehicle acoustics. If space is especially tight, i go sealed. I like the extra deep bass, and ported boxes can gain 3db near the tuning frequency

I should have done a math check before i typed 50%, but no that's not what i'm trying to say. The amp should be capable of 500 watts, but apparently you're not getting that from it. Placing a sub in a car with an identical signal should should always result in greater SPL, due to cabin gain. Either your home amplifier is giving it more power

Only a fully regulated amp would double power going from 4 ohm to 2 ohm. Nearly all mono amplifiers are unregulated these days, so you'd get more power, but not double. 50% more power should be expected, but even that may be too generous. I have to admit here that i bought a FUBR-12 Power Acoustik sub 3 years ago. It claimed to handle outrageous

BooYah to that Tiger! I'd like to know if pressing the next track button will select a random song when the unit is in random playback. My Pioneer gets on my nerves. Those videos seem to be more of a showcase than an unbiased review, but i like to know what the drawbacks are in a HU. Perhaps they could highlight 3 or 4 'great!' and 'not

The volume of air inside the vent does not figure into the tuning frequency, but the more volume you have in the vent, the less noise the vent will make. Bigger vents are quieter, and longer.

That's a lot of bass for one system. What my decision would be based on, since they are both highly recommended amps, is what amp do i want for my other speakers, and how will they fit? I want my amps to match, and fit into my ride nicely. I usually spend most of my time figuring out how big of an amp i can fit into this spot or that and how accessible

It doesn't make any sense that a sub would be louder with less power in a large room than in your car. Are you sure your amp is putting out the power it should? Did your JL behave the same way? Far as the subsonic filter, yes you need one. Aren't you tired of blowing subs? Doesn't take much power to damage a sub when it's not acoustically

What a fascinating thread!

A vented box will perform the same whether you use a slot vent or ports. They perform the same function. Slot vents take up more room than tubes, so your box would need to be larger, not smaller. I haven't used rubberized coating myself, but it seems like it would be a very durable finish. I would never suggest attempting to combine the ports of
Personally, I was a bit disappointed that we kinda botched the thread - the OP had a replacement speaker before anyone mentioned that the problem could be with the amp.
I feel you on that point Tiger. But did we really find the problem? The burnt resistors are eye-catching and certainly bad, but why did they
