I have recently purchased a new Sony head unit and two Pioneer 5-1/4" speekers to add in the areas available on the dash. I have been told that I cannot just hook up the new system and speakers as I have to contend with an existing amplifier that is not part of the stock unit and located somewhere in the vehicle.

I am seeking any advice that can be provided on how best to proceed with the installation and what additional equipment I may need to purchase (i.e. dash kits, adapters, data transfer kits, etc).

Any help would be appreciated.

I have done a few car audio installs, so I am not a complete newb at this sort of thing. Everything hooked up great and sound works fine - but only when the source on the headunit is Tuner - when I switch to CD or AUX input, only sound comes out of my sub. ???

I tried everything I could think of and even called sony support, but no dice. All my wires are secure, and besides, if I had miswired something, it wouldn't magically work when I turned the headunit to FM, would it? So, I gave in and bought a new sony headunit, figuring it was just something with that, but the SAME PROBLEM is still happening - I am using the same wiring harness though.

What could I be doing wrong?

edit - http://community.crutchfield.com/forums/thread/2506.aspx does this post have anything to do with it?

double edit - the sony headunit I just bought and am installing is a MEX-BT5000
