Where is an illumination wire

OK Everyone,
Here is a weird one. I have a 2005 Chevy Silverado with OnStar and Bose.

Crutchfield had me get the Metra GMOS04 interface for my new NAV system. I have been working with them trying to figure out why the illumination signal was not passing to the Radio.

We figured out tonight that this "Class II" GM wiring that the truck has does not have an Illumination wire.

Does anyone know of a wiring diagram that could show me where I can tap into a 12v wire that only signals when the lights are on?

Please.... HELP!!!!

Here is the wiring diagram. If you look you can see that it does not have illumination.

You sound like you are doing what I just finished doing...upgrading your overall surround sound system. I am not a tech guy, but my daughter and her friends think I am because I study every detail. I just purchased the Onkyo TX-SR 706, which is very similar to the 607. I too had an old Sony surround system, which I debated about whether to replace. Replacing the receiver made all of the difference in the world in regard to sound. It is your engine, so to speak. A huge difference. Night and day. I now am able to hear small drops of water. My speakers are all Bose including the center channel and sub and I have a 50" Panasonic Plasma and Blu-ray DVD. I am also thinking about adding a powered sub someday in addition to the Bose sub, which takes the base out of the front speakers. The house now shakes. Even my non-techie wife can tell the huge difference.

My suggestion is to start with buying the new receiver and hooking it all up, whether you go with the Onkyo, Pioneer or say a Denon. You will be surprised how much better everything sounds. It blew me away. Then you can decide on the sub. You want to make sure all of your speakers and the sub match up well, but you probably know that already. With the Onkyo, you can select different listening modes to fill the room how you like it best depending on the music, movie, ipod, etc. The sound setting for movies/tv can be set differently from sound from a CD, ipod, etc. where your center channel is practically by-passed. If you watch a DVD, you will soon see that most of the sound will come from the center speaker and the front left and right speakers provide additional sound effects, music soundtracks, etc. The back speakers will give that surround effect if the movies has action going over head. The flexibility of the Onkyo listening modes is nice and allows you to customize your sound on what you like best depending on the source. The Onkyo customer service was very helpful too with some ideas.

Have fun and good luck!

And while it's always exciting to go and visit new places, lugging excess baggage around isn't. So over time, I've learned what things I really need, and what things I can do without.

Discussions of essential clothing and toiletries we'll save for another day. Here, though, is my list of must-take electronics to keep this traveler happy.

Bose® QuietComfort® 2 Acoustic Noise Cancelling® headphones.

I used to think that airline engine roar didn't bother me, until I tried a set of noise-canceling headphones. That's when I realized just how oppressing that continual drone was, and how it left me feeling really drained when we finally touched down again.

Sometimes I'll listen to music inflight, but most often I just like to turn the noise cancellation circuitry on and either read or doze (sometimes I start out doing one activity and then transition to the other). So I just don't get on an airplane without them. End of story.

Apple iPod classic 120GB.

OK, I'm a little old school here. I rely on my portable player mostly for audio, not video. In addition to my music, I usually have a healthy backlog of podcasts to get through. So this is my player of choice. Others might prefer something with stronger video support, like an iPod touch or a smart phone.

iLive ISP209 portable speaker system.

I like to listen to music in my hotel room, so a small speaker system for my iPod is a must. My old system's pretty much run its course, so I'll need to replace it -- probably with the ISP209. Although it runs on batteries, I'll use it's AC power cord. Once I get to the hotel room, I'll leave it there. The ISP209 can charge my player, so I don't have to carry a separate charger.

And one other thing about this particular model. It has a digital clock with dual alarms. That means I don't have to mess with the hotel's goofy alarm clock (and they all seem to have slightly different controls), nor carry a travel alarm.

Monster® Power Outlets to Go.

I became a big fan of this handy power strip when I had a chance to try it out. Between my laptop, portable speaker system, and cell phone charger, I usually have more things to plug in than I can find convenient outlets for. I used to take a regular extension cord, but that was a mess. It always got tangled in my clothes. The Power Outlet's made for travel; its cord loops around the body and the plug locks in place.

Canon PowerShot SD780.

Everybody has their own ideas about cameras, and I know several folks who wouldn't consider traveling without their SLR camera and lenses. I'm not a serious photographer, but I do want to take better pictures than I can get with my cell phone's camera. The SD780 is a good choice for simple point-and-shoot photography, and has a nice set of automatic features. What I really like about it, though, is the size. The SD780 is only 3/4" thick, and about the size of a credit card. I can just slip it in my pocket or travel bag and go. And as long as I refrain from wearing a fanny pack, no one will know I'm a tourist.

That's all that I need to get on a plane and fly across the country (which I'll be doing next week). What about you? What items will you turn the car around and go back home for it they're not packed?

Re: Mazda 3 Bose - Help me please!

I like the look of the oiginal HU in the car. And as a Crutchfield advisor, I'm often asked for gift ideas along those lines.

One of my first questions is this: "Does your dad have an iPod® yet?" That's a good place to start. And if he does, no problem. A well-chosen accessory can make a great gift, too. Here are some of my recommendations (both as a Crutchfield advisor and a hopeful Father's Day gift recipient).

Apple iPod Touch $299.99
What makes the iPod® touch special is the multitude of applications available through Apple's App Store.Even if dad's just a little tech-savvy, he can easily mix and match apps (both free and paid) to expand the player's functionality to do what he wants it to do. And although it plays music and video like a regular iPod, the touch can do more.

For the younger (or young-at-heart) dad, the iPod touch's Wi-Fi® connectivity can give him some of the same entertainment he enjoys on his PC. He could stream music from sites like Pandora, check Facebook, play games, even just surf the Internet. Very handy if other family members are clamoring for their time on the computer.

Bose® in-ear headphones $99.99
If dad already has an iPod or another type of portable music player, one of the best things you can get him (and one of the most overlooked gift ideas) is a good pair of headphones. The earbuds that come with the iPod are serviceable, but they don't deliver the level of performance high-quality in-ear headphones can. The Bose in-ear headphones deliver on sound quality, and have extremely good dynamic range.

If your dad needs the functionality of in-ear headphones (as opposed to larger, over-the-ear headphones) but doesn't like the way most of them fit -- these may be just the ticket. The Bose in-ear headphones feature an ergonomic design and soft, silicone ear tips that hold the headphones comfortably in place without requiring insertion or earclips. And if he likes other Bose products, these in-ear headphones are almost a sure bet.

Sony ICF-C1IPMK2 Clock Radio With iPod/iPhone dock $99.99
Even if your dad has an iPod or iPhone™, chances are he's still waking up to the same old clock radio he's had for ages -- we dads tend to hold on to things a little too long. You can help him upgrade his nightstand with the 'C1IPMK2 clock radio.

This handy device features a built-in iPod dock, and a selectable alarm source. So iInstead of a harsh electric tone or an obnoxious DJ jolting him awake, dad can greet the day to his favorite music from his iPod. And of course the 'C1IPMK2 doubles as a powered speaker system, so he can enjoy his iPod's music any time of day.

Alpine CDA-105 CD Receiver with iPod Control $199.99
Is your dad still spending hours commuting, or shuttling other family members around to various activites? Why not give him a way to have a little quality listening time in the car, then? The Alpine CDA-105 lets him play his iPod or iPhone through the car's sound system -- and with a Alpine KCU-440i iPod cable, he can control his player straight from the receiver.

The receiver also displays text information from the iPod, so dad -- and his passengers -- can see what's playing. And of course it keeps his player while connected, so dad won't run out of his favorite music no matter how long the drive (sorry, kids).

If your dad already has an iPod and/or the various items he needs to go with it, no worries. I've got some other suggestions.

Is your dad a movie buff? In part 2 I'll offer up some Father's Day gift ideas for the dad who watches a lot of TV. And if dad travels a lot (or just has to spend a lot of time in the car), well, I have a few suggestions I'll share in part 3.

2005 Altima Amp

I have an 05 Altima with the stock Bose system. If I get a new amp will i need to rewire the whole car to support it or can it use the existing bose wiring?

For the rear deck i was going to go with Infinity Kappa 692.9i and Infinity Kappa 62.9i for the front door.

Please let me know if you need any addtional information to help me!

What Does The Factory GM GMT800 Factory Bose System Have?

Can anyone tell me what exactly is the factory bose system comprised of? I know it has the bose amp, subs, and speakers, but is there anything else? Also, where are the amp and the subs located, and does anyone have any power ratings, etc. on this system?

Thanks,

Actually, the rest of the car gets sound except during warm weather, which in South Mississippi means 10 months of mono sound and two months +/- of great sound.

The Audi dealer says the amplifier needs to be replaced ($1,216 for part and labor). Does this sound reasonable (both diagnosis and price)?

It seems to me that it acts like a loose wire or connection.

How hard would it be for me to replace the amplifier myself?

Thanks
