This means that you should go with 10" subwoofers. We have a few enclosed subwoofers that would work well. We offer the Rockford Fosgate P2L-210 that would fit, but you would get better performance from something like the JL Audio PowerWedge CS210RG-W1v2-2.

Of course there is always the route of getting the subwoofers and then getting a box that is 14" or less in height or making one that is. I suggest looking at things like the Kicker Comp VR 10" subwoofer or the Alpine Type R 10" subwoofers.

Anyone have other suggestions?

Re: jl audio amp

The JL Audio Slash V2 500/1v2 amp would be a good match for one of the Rockford Fosgate P3 12" subwoofers, but not for two of them. That amp would output 250 watts for each subwoofer if you connect two of them and that is only 50% of the RMS power they handle. So, while it would technically work, it would not sound good. You should look for an amp that outputs at least 800 watts RMS power and up to 1000 watts RMS power. JL Audio offers the Slash V2 1000/1v2 amp that will work and Alpine offers the PDX-1.1000 amp that will work with two of those subwoofers.
I am looking for either 2 tens or 2 twelves. My preferance is JL audio or Rockfordfosgate but will see what else is out there. I know I kinda messed up when I got the 4 channel amp instead of a mono or 2 but im trying to do the best with what I got. My budget is around $100 per sub, I have wires and can make a box pretty easily. Was hoping I could get a little professional imput. Ive been reading up on subs and amps and the compatibility and I think I have a very general idea of how to do it. I drive a '99 Mercury Cougar and just wondering what you all would think would sound best in there with my amp, im looking for as loud as possible.

Re: Subwoofers hardly hitting

Hey,

I've checked and double checked my wiring, and played with every set up I can find in the HU, and played with the gain on the amp. Any suggestions?

Heres my setup:

HU: Apline CDA-9856

Subs: JL 10w3v2 D4 (DVC)

Amp: Rockford Punch 550.2

Each sub is wired in parallel, creating 2 ohms per sub. Sub 1 going to the first channel and Sub 2 going to the second. Should I have wired them together in series and bridged the amp?

Any suggestions as to why they are barely hitting?

Soliciting recommendations for affordable, very musical 12 inch subs.

Events have played out so that my second Rockford Fosgate 20 to Life amp is not going to be going into my wife's car after all (she traded the car in on a new Ram). So I have an extra fairly musical amp with gobs of power available. I'm looking for recommedations for affordable, musical 12 inch subs that will go very low but they must have good musical reproduction. I'm not looking for thump, I want to be able to tell that what I am hearing is a cello, a standup bass or an organ, if you get the idea. I listen to lots of blues, new and old, and some of it has orchestral backing. I also listen to rock with synthesizers and deep bass lines. I would love to go with JL Audio to timbre match the 6 inch subs in the front doors, but the budget really won't support that. I'm leaning toward Polk as the reviews I've seen indicate that they have the qualities I'm looking for. In particular I'm thinking about the Polk Audio db124, which should be a good match, power-wise, for my amp. Any regulars have any experience with this particular sub or have different recommendations?

I was wonder what what kind of amplfier i should get with my Alpine HU? I was really impressed by the Alpine 9885. The two line display and non-gimmicky screen were two of my favorite parts about it. The graphical displays in higher end head unit models is a pretty big turn-off to me, but the Alpine pulled it off without cheesing me out. An employee at the store said to me that Alpine tends to focus more on sound quality than Pioneer, and that Pioneer is all about the graphics and bass control nowadays.

The same guy also tried to convince me that a 10" JL Audio W1v2 in JL's custom built ported enclosure would blow the pants off any other 12" woofer I'm currently considering. I asked him about Infinity and JBL products, but he said he doesn't care for them because they are both owned by Harmon International, which is a Japanese company. Another way he tried to justify his opinion was because he didn't like Japanese engineers fine tuning his product when he'll be listening to American music. Sounded like some pretty lame excuses to me.

Overall, he suggested JL Audio for a woofer, Rockford Fosgate for an amplifier, and either Eclipse, Kenwood, or Alpine for a head unit. At this point I don't know what to think. :(
