I want to change my factory 6x8 speakers. I cannot afford a sub at this time, but can somebody recommend a speaker that does some justice to bass??

I was thinking of the Infinity Kappa, but recently found from a review that it doesn't have good bass. I heard Polk, BA or JL is good for bass? Can somebody recommend a nice set? It would mean a lot..

Thanks...

As for component speakers, it is recommended that you keep the tweeter that comes with them close to ear level. While you can mount them lower, this can cause a downgrade in the clarity of the system and can defeat the purpose of going with component speakers in the first place. The Alpine Type X SPX-17PRO component speakers are definitely a great sounding system. However, since you will have subwoofers in your system, you may want to get the Boston Acoustics Pro60 speakers. They do play cleaner for the mids and highs, and have gotten great reviews.

Now, I am not exactly sure what you mean by "sounding funny", but I do know that others have referred to the highs playing much louder than the mids and lows due to the separation of the tweeter and the woofer. The Boston speakers do have a tweeter attenuation that can help correct this issue (if it is the issue you are having).

One thing that can help you get better bass is to give the subwoofer more power. The JL Audio 12w3 can handle up to 500 watts RMS. Since the Kenwood XXV-02A amp outputs 240 watts when bridged, you are not giving the subwoofer enough power to play loud. Also, two 12" subwoofers will move more air thereby giving you more bass. I would definitely recommend getting a separate amp to power the subwoofers. I feel that your best course of action would be to get an amp that will properly power two of the JL Audio 12w3 subwoofers. If you have the 4 ohm version now, then you should get another one and the Alpine MRP-M1000 amp to power them. If you have the 2 ohm or the 8 ohm, then your best choice is to get another subwoofer of the same impedance and get the Alpine PDX-1.1000 amp.

HTH!! Anyone have any other suggestions?

Let me start by saying that I will NOT be using and external amp and will only use the H/U. Also I don't own a Ipod, but will run the wire for one so that my kids can use it the few times they are in my car. I listen mainly to A/M and F/M and will listen to some CD's. With that being out of the way, this is what I have narrowed it down to; H/U-Alpine 9881,9883...Pioneer DEH-4900iB or Kenwood KDC-x591. For the rear speakers; JL Audio..TR690-Txi or Boston Acoustics..S95.3,S95 or Sx95. For the fronts; JL Audio..TR570-Cxi or Boston Acoustics..S85 or Sx85. If anyone has any suggestions, opinions or experience with any of the above please let me know. All your feedback will be greatly appreciated!!!
