HELP!!!!!!!!!!!! JL Audio Sub Options Cant decide!!!!!!

Ok heres the story. I have a 1992 Chevrolet Camaro (Third Gen) T-Top hatchback.

I have avenues of approach for subwoofers. I have the Choice between a single JL Audio 12W7 or...

A pair of JL Audio 12W6V2's

Either would be powered with a JL 1000/1 amp but im torn between the two. I have not been into car audio since high school and forgot just about all i learned. What are the pro's and cons VS the two. Will 2 W6's hit harder then a single W7? should i go ported or unported? Should i hook up all three? Im lost in this area and would appreciate any help??? do i need to spend this much on an amp or is there a comparible amp for a fraction of the Price?

Since the box you found has two facing out and two facing up, then that may be the best box you will find. When subwoofers face up, they do not give the same performance as subwoofers facing in or out (forward or backward). Now, bass is unidirectional so, the sound would be similar (depending on the vehicle), but the impact (the punch of the bass) will not be the same. You will lose some of the impact from the subwoofers facing upwards. I know that it will be hard to find a premade box that will have all four subwoofers facing the same direction. If this is what you want, then you may need to check with a local custom installer to see if a box can be made the way you want.

Hey all,

I am hoping for some advice. I just bought a new 2008 Scion xB and I want to put in a couple of subs and an amp. I have the Pioneer premier sound system which sounds pretty good. Needs more low end bass. My vision is to do custom fiberglass enclosures mounted in the side walls of the rear cargo area to maintain as much of the storage area as possible while still adding a custom look and some kickin bass.

My problem is this. I know nothing about speakers or amps so I am having a hard time narrowing down my choices. I think I want to do 8" woofers to keep them small enough to be mounted on the wall. I know 8" will work as long as they are not really deep. I tried to get an estimate from a stereo shop today. The installer was cool and we came up with a plan for getting the 8's in an enclosure and where I wanted them. I went inside talked to the salesman and he quoted me $1100 for 2 MTX 8" 5500's a powerbass 800 watt 2 channel amp a hi low adapter, amp kit and shop fees. Plus $600 for the custom boxes.

His price on the woofers was 199. I see them here for more like 80. So now I am worried that anything the saleman tolds me was BS. I want to do this right. I have been dreaming of buiulding a custom ride for a long time and this xB is my first shot at it. I don't want to screw it up by spending a ton of money on a custom install only to find out I bought the cheap stuff and got ripped off. So I am here to ask the experts.

I listen to all types of music but I listen to a lot of Hip Hop and want that deep "wake the neighbors" type bass. I don't need the actual decibles to wake my neighbors, but thats the only way I know how to describe it.

ok now i got a debate on which brand of sub/amp 2 get. My car is a 94 Buick Lesabre Custom. gotta lot of **** trunk space. i'm thinkin bout gettin either 2 12"s or 2 15"s. The stereo i'm gettin is a Pioneer DEH-P5900iB. Now With da subs not sure. Option #1.... Be cheap an get the Alpine bass package which includes...MRP-450 Amp, 2 12" SWE-1242 Subs, an a basic Q-Logic Box...Option #2..2 15" Kicker CompVR's, Custom box....now the thing is it's gonna be my first set of subs an i wanna do it big an am not sure on wat 2 get. so if anybody has some advice, recommendations on what 2 get an whatnot i'd appreciate it..... willing 2 spend bout 1500....or less which ever the products fall in so hit me up leave somethin useful...my goal is 2 create earthquakes ya feel me... make ppl at my apartments trip an da cops flip.........1

Ok, I have 3 Alpine type r 2 ohm subs i was wondering whats an inexpensive amp that would pound these and how would i wire them.

they will be in a custom ported box.

Have a custom box made. Though I'd be hard to give you any idea of what it might look or how it'd perform without some dimensions of what you have to work with.

Custom rear speaker panel for sound from trunk

Car: 2002 Mitsubishi Diamante LS (factory infinity premium sound)

Amp: Power Acoustik TS1920-2 (Bridge for 880watts RMS @ 4ohms)

Subs: Kicker CVR 12" 4ohm (1cu ft per sub in sealed enclosure, in trunk) 440watts RMS going to each sub

I was thinking of making a custom rear speaker panel to accomplish the following things:

1. Mount my amp inside it so that the cool lightning globe is visible from inside the car

2. Allow more sound to pass from the trunk to the inside

3. Have a custom look to it

4. Still have space for the 6x9s to sit in it.

So I was going to take off the carpeted board that the 6x9s sit in and put something else in that I can mount my amp into and let sound pass through it from the trunk.

What material should I use? Anyone have any other ideas?

I'm also thinking of cutting a hole in the plastic between the trunk and the space behind the rear-seat armrest so I can pull down the armrest and let more bass in.

I have a 10" sub and I need a box that will fit under my seat... A 12" deep space with 6" from the seat to the floor narrowing down to 3" as it gets deeper... I want it to fit perfectly under the seat without having any of it stick out...

im going to be replacing my subs. i want to do 2 12 inch sub and i wana spend around $150 on them.

im going to make a costum box for them.

also i was wondering if anyone has any esperience with using either 12inch versus 15inch subs

The predicament is picking front speakers. I'm really not looking forward to the continued use of 4" dash speakers. Neither can I afford kick panels. 6"-6 1/2" speakers show up as being available for my doors with modifications but do not go into any more detail . I've looked everywhere for a diagram of some sort so I can get a measurement and understanding of what I'll be getting myself into, but haven't been able to find anything. Even my Chilton doesn't show a cut out of the door. Short of removing the door panel and busting out a ruler, can anyone offer some insight?

(not so worried about imaging, I've built a rack (for lack of a better word) made of plywood covered with car carpet that makes a level surface at the same height of my seats where I'm going to mount some 6x9 speakers in sealed boxes that I just ordered; right behind my seats, so itll be crap to begin with.)
