While the factory speaker and the SPR-17C are both marked as 6.5"/6.75" speakers, their actual dimensions differ just enough that the Alpine speaker is not an exact fit. With some modification to the factory housing, it may be possible to install the speaker, our "Outfit My Car" feature is designed you only show you the speakers that will fit with no modifications necessary to the housing. This way customers don't get an unpleasant surprise when they order a speaker that is the same "size" but does not fit in the location when they try to install it.

For this specific speaker, the reason that it doesn't fit is because the cutout diameter of your housing is 4.997". The SPR-17C requires a cutout diameter of 5.372" in order to fit in the housing. In order to make that speaker fit the housing, you would need to enlarge the hole by .375" (or 3/8").

Regarding the speaker and amplifier selection, you've done a great job. Both the SPR-17C and the SPR-69C have a power handling of 2-100w RMS. The Alpine MRP-F550 provides 90wRMS per speaker, while the Alpine PDX-4.100 provides 100wRMS per speaker -right at the speakers' rating. We recommend that a speaker receives at least 70% of its rated power handling, so your speakers would sound great with either amplifier.

I hope this helps. Does anyone else have any ideas about this system or speaker fitment?

Re: 2007 ranger speaker upgrade

Hey trevormarsh,

I'm not sure what you mean by a "major hack job", but this will require some modification. To start with, you will have to increase the size of the hole in that location. Also, when you increase the size of the speaker, you also will more than likely increase the mounting depth and mounting height of the speaker. This can cause you some fit issues as well. I would suggest taking it to a local custom installer and see what they can do for you.

Another thing to consider is that if you don't have factory speakers in that location now, you will also have to run speaker wire from the receiver. Is there a particular reason you don't want to go with the easier install and use 6x8 speakers? My personal opinion is that it would save you a lot of time and trouble. Anybody else out there done this install and have any other suggestions?

While it is possible to fit many 6x9 speakers in the rear deck of a 1998 Honda Accord, our website only shows those speakers that are listed as an "Easy Fit" meaning: No modification or customization is necessary.

The real problem with the Polk MMC690 is the "mounting height" or "tweeter protrusion". The tweeter on this speaker protrudes almost full inch beyond the mounting plane. When we researched the '98 Accord, we found .75" of clearance under the factory grille in the rear deck. While you can easily mount the MMC690s in the factory location, you may have difficulty re-installing the factory grille covers. You may be able to modify the factory grille or fabricate a spacer so the grill does not touch the tweeter. You'll need another quarter inch of clearance to be sure there won't be any problems.

We just want you to be aware of any potential issues, before you purchase, so there are no surprises during your installation. Feel free to give them a try. If they don't work out for you, or you simply change your mind, we'll take them back.

I hope that helps.

Speaker Fitment

Well I own a 97 altima and have come to realize that my 5x7 speaker mount cannot "fit" 5 1/4 in speakers or 6 1/2. Im looking into component speakers am not sure if they will fit since the only ones that show up "filtered" are 4 inch speakers which wont be good enough for me. I realize that i am probably going to have to do some customization but im not sure how much money it will cost. It would be appreciated if anyone could inform me as to how much money im looking to spend to customize my mounts for these higher end speakers.
