  • Sony KDL-40XBR7: High Re-definition

Generally speaking, there are two types of electronics enthusiasts — audiophiles and videophiles. I've always defined myself as an audiophile, but that may be changing now. I listen to music all the time, but I watch much less TV and fewer movies than most of my friends. In fact, I had planned...

  • Aspect Ratio problem

I have an old Sony DVD player connected to a new Denon 3808CI receiver via component video. The Denon upscales to 1080p and feeds into a 50" 1080p plasma TV via HDMI. Almost all movies that we watch have black bands at top and bottom thereby not optimizing the "real estate" of the TV screen. I understand...

  • Re: Buying a tv from crutchfield?

A few years ago Crutchfield came to the rescue when I was looking for a specific model of a Canon digital camera - none of the local big box electronics stores had what i wanted in stock. Crutchfield had the model and delivered it in time for Christmas. Last week I attempted to purchase a Panasonic Viera...

  • Tech Terms Demystified: 1080p vs. 1080i

If you're researching buying a new HDTV, you may have come across this question: "1080p vs. 1080i — which is better?" Not surprising, actually. "1080p vs. 1080i" is one of the most common searches on the Crutchfield web site. Let's take a look at what 1080p and 1080i are, and why it's important to know...

  • 720p/1080i upconvert on a 1080p TV

So I'm thinking of replacing my current tube HDTV with a Samsung 32" A550 which is 1080p and is the only 32" TV I can find that will fit in the very tight spot I have (and I love the A330 I just set up in the bedroom). Anyway, I have a Denon 1920 DVD player that upconverts to 720p or 1080i. Does the...
