Jeff and I meet at the Crutchfield Research Bay for the final system tuneup. In the last installment , we set the crossover points and adjusted the gain structure in the Sebring's system. Now, we've borrowed an AudioControl Real Time Analyzer (RTA), a complex little box that's used to measure...

  • Top Down Sound, Part 3: Tuning up the audio system in a convertible

In Part 2 , we ripped my Sebring apart to install a high-performance audio system. Since then, I've been playing lots of music over my system in the last two weeks, and I spend a little time in my garage every night making adjustments. I've got the crossover points and gain controls set so that...

A system of this magnitude is completely out of my league, so I turn to Ben and Wayne, two ace installers who also maintain Crutchfield's car...

  • 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee amp upgrade

I have a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland with Boston Acoustic premium system, that should be made of a 288-watt Digital Signal Processing amplifier and 6 speakers: two 3.5-inch mid- to high-frequency instrument panel mounted speakers, two 6 x 9-inch woofers mounted in the front doors and two 6.5-inch...

  • Re: sx-60s and alpine cda-9857?

While The Boston Acoustics SX60 speakers will work with the power of the Alpine CDA-9857 , they will sound better with an amp that gives closer to 65 watts RMS. The Boston GT-20 amp that pzaul recommended will work fine and also allow you to add another set for the rear later if you choose.

  • System Critique, Amp Question

In 2003, I set up my 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee with an Alpine CDA 9807 head unit, a Kenwood 640 watt amp powering Boston Acoustic door speakers, then added a 12" T1 Rockford Fosgate POWER sub with a Rockford Fosgate POWER T5002 amp. I've always loved the system, but it seemed to me that mid bass didn...
