There is a thread where something similar was happening and it did turn out to be a wiring issue. You may want to check that again. Anyone have other ideas?

Well this seems to work....the drive is a blank 180GB Western Digital Drive that now has folders in it numbered 1-250. Each folder has 244 songs, and i fill up about 34 od the 250 folders this way. BUT the system is SLOOOOOOOWWWWWWWW. We're talking 15-20 seconds for the unit to react to a single screen...

You may need to get the software update that Nice Pony referenced in his post at the beginning of the thread . Try that update and let us know if it works.
