  • Eclipse AVN726E and ipod compatibility

I recently bought an 09 Altima and the Nissan dealership put in the Eclipse AVN726E when I asked for GPS with ipod compatibility. I have an 80GB ipod video (5th gen, I believe) that is hooked into the back. I don't know which cable the installers used. Here's my problem. The 726E has no trouble...

  • Top Down Sound, Part 4: Equalizing the audio system in a convertible

Jeff and I meet at the Crutchfield Research Bay for the final system tuneup. In the last installment , we set the crossover points and adjusted the gain structure in the Sebring's system. Now, we've borrowed an AudioControl Real Time Analyzer (RTA), a complex little box that's used to measure...

  • Top Down Sound, Part 3: Tuning up the audio system in a convertible

In Part 2 , we ripped my Sebring apart to install a high-performance audio system. Since then, I've been playing lots of music over my system in the last two weeks, and I spend a little time in my garage every night making adjustments. I've got the crossover points and gain controls set so that...

  • Top Down Sound, Part 2: Installing an audio system in a convertible

The big day has arrived. In the first installment , we planned out the system for my convertible. Now we'll take a long look at the installation process. A system of this magnitude is completely out of my league, so I turn to Ben and Wayne, two ace installers who also maintain Crutchfield's car...

  • Re: DNX8120 Vs. DNX9140

Yes, even though the 726E looks quite good, it is lacking a lot of advanced features. I downloaded manuals of both the 726E and the DNX9140 and did a quick read/compare. Overall, I much prefer the layout and menus etc of the Eclipse. Clean interface with well-placed buttons etc, whereas the 9140 is more...

  • Top Down Sound, Part 1: Planning an audio system for a convertible

For most people, the words "car audio" conjure up an image of a big SUV blasting you with waves of bass at a stoplight. But car audio systems aren't all about bass - they come in as many shapes and sizes as home audio systems. To the car audio fan, each new car offers the challenge of how...

  • Re: Amplifier for subs

While I am not that familiar with Boss Audio amps, I can say that per the specifications I found on various sites, the amp should be able to output plenty of power for two of those subwoofers. If I had to guess, I would say that your alternator is the part that is holding back the system. Since it is...

  • Re: 4 new kicker KS650/KS600 vs '04 Jeep Liberty stock system

The only thing that I can think of would be that the Kicker speakers can handle up to 65 watts RMS power. Since stock systems never go over 20 watts of power (and most are even less than that), then it could be that the Kicker speakers aren't getting enough power to produce powerful bass. An amp should...
