  • Rear speakers, amplifier, and subwoofer

Now that the front door speakers were in -- and we could ably demonstrate the difference between the front aftermarket and rear factory speakers -- it was time to install the new rear speakers. Matt and I decided that this next phase would be big; not only would we be mounting JL Audio C2-650X full-range...

  • Video: factory vs. aftermarket speakers

OK, so we finally got the video formatting worked out. It's very informal; Matt sat in the back seat with the Canon XSi camera capturing our back-to-front-and-back-again fading demo by moving the camera's built-in microphone forward and backward along with the fades. We're listening for sonic...

  • Re: Stock Subwoofer question

The stock amp powers all the speakers so you will not want to disconnect it. However, you could unplug the wire going to the subwoofer and that still stop it from working.

  • Laying the Foundation, Part 1

As you might have read in Crutchfield's Winter/Spring 2009 catalog ( read article ), I'm in the midst of a piece-by-piece overhaul of the factory sound system in my 2002 Yukon. While I have owned a few cars in my time, and have been a car audio hobbyist since high school, I can safely say that I've not...

  • 96 GMC Jimmy Double Din

Hi, I currently own a gmc Jimmy with after market head deck and subwoofer. My question was about installing a double din (Kenwood DNX5120) into the car. The din size has been classified as a din and 1/2 but there is a small pouch underneath the current space which can be popped out creating a space with...

  • Alpine CDA-9884 - Audio pops when I let off my brake pedal and AM Crackling when engine is on.

I replaced my stock stereo from my old 1998 GMC Sierra 1500 with the Alpine CDA-9884 CD Receiver. 1. Each time I release my brake pedal, the speakers make a pop noise. It's not loud enough to destroy speakers but it's rather annoying. 2. AM stations sound ok when I have my engine off and am in accessory...

  • Amp for components

I am replacing my stock front door components in my 2000 GMC Sierra Ext Cab. I have decided to go with the polk momo 6.5 (MMC 6500). They are rated to handle up to 125 watts RMS. My question is what type of amp do i need? I know they make amps specifically for high's and subs as well. Also i am putting...

  • 2000 GMC Sierra Setup

I have done a lot of research on the polk momo mmc 6500 components. I like them and would like to put them in my front doors. I have the extended cab three door with out on star and a factory head unit. I also plan on putting two decent subs under the back seat. The box i have is a dual chamber. each...
