  • Blu-ray sound formats and receiver compatibility

Here's my situation: I've got a PS3 that I'm currently running though an older component video receiver. I'm typically "in the know" when it comes to home theater and electronics terminology, but recently my head is spinning with all the talk of compressed, uncompressed, decoding...

  • Re: Onkyo TX-SR606 and Wii - Keep loosing picture.

I have an similar problem with my TX-SR606. Did you manage to get it resolved or did you have to send it away for repair? HDMI Sources such as Sky+ HD and PS3 all work fine. Xbox 360 and Wii produce sound but no picture, the only way to get a picture is to repeatedly turn the reciever on and off (10...

  • Does the PS3 decode all the latest audio formats?

I'm thinking of purchasing the newer 160GB PS3 but also concerned with the "dumming up" of some of these (pre 4/09) units I've read about and am also wondering if they decode the latest sound formats via HDMI or is a dig. optic a better audio choice for the audio???

  • Re: Need help deciding between onkyo receiver/HTiB, first timer

Yeah the receiver for the S9100THX is pretty similar to the 806. I was having a tough time deciding because I wondered if I could get a set of 7.1 speakers for around $400-$500 that would use the power output of the 806? Any recommendations? My only requirement is that they be black to keep everything...

  • Need help deciding between onkyo receiver/HTiB, first timer

So aside from my computer 5.1 setup I haven't really had much experience in the home theater area. I am looking to purchase a respectable system and have narrowed it down to two options but can't decide which would be better for myself. I have a 55'' vizio along with a ps3. I can't decide between getting...

  • My wish list -- the Onkyo TX-SR606 home theater receiver

Sometimes it's the simple things that make you decide you've got to have a new piece of gear. In my case, there were four things to consider: H, D, M, and I. I've already got a pretty good home theater receiver, but it's getting a little old. Exactly how old was brought home to me when...

  • Re: Home Theater Question

Do you have the PS3 set to LPCM, or BitStream? Have you tried all of the settings on the PS3 for audio? Here's a good link to setting up the Audio on your PS3: PSN - settings Not that it'll help, as it seem you have gotten this far. Another wierd thing: My DLP / AVR setup will not play sound on digital...

  • Enjoying music on the PS3

Cooking, for me, can take anywhere from half-an-hour to throw a meal together, to hours of careful preparation when I’m making large meals for others. So how do I stay motivated? I use our PLAYSTATION®3 to play music when I'm in the kitchen. Right now there's about 17GB of music stored on our PS3’s hard...

  • Which HD discs look the best?

I'll be honest – when it comes to gaming, I'm much more of a sucker for the Wii than the high-def heavyweights, Xbox 360 and PS3. But I can't deny that I love the jaw-droppingly gorgeous HD DVD and Blu-ray movies I've watched on the 360's HD DVD drive and PS3, respectively. It's fun to be dorky about...

  • Ryan’s Rules for Purchasing a PS3

The PlayStation3 is one of the better electronics purchases I’ve made in quite some time. The high - definition graphics and digital surround sound provide a truly immersive gaming experience. When you also factor in the PS3’s Blu-Ray and networking capabilities, you can begin to justify the initial...
