  • New speakers with an existing sub/amp

In my 2006 scion tc, I've already got a JL Audio w3ve 10" sub with a JL Audio G2250 amp and am looking into upgrading my factory speakers in the car. Would I have to buy another amp if I did this or would my G2250 amp be enough? I don't understand all this peak power, RMS, wattage, etc....

  • Single stereo-input dash speaker for vintage car owners

If you've ever tried to install a modern car stereo in a pre-1960s vintage automobile, you've probably run across the problem of getting stereo sound in a vehicle with only one center dash speaker. When I owned a '56 Studebaker Hawk, I faced two not-so-great choices: modify the car by installing...

  • need a bass specific 6x8

I recently purchased an Alpine IDA x200 from Crutchfield... I want to change my factory 6x8 speakers. I cannot afford a sub at this time, but can somebody recommend a speaker that does some justice to bass?? I was thinking of the Infinity Kappa, but recently found from a review that it doesn't have...

  • How to Match Wattage of Headunit and Speakers

I have a 1993 Ford Ranger with an aftermarket headunit and stock speakers. The stock speakers have no bass at all and sound terrible when turned up to a moderate volume or higher. I would like to replace them, but I do not want to add an amp. My current headunit is a rather outdated Aiwa CDC-X217 (4...

  • I want to instal my first amp, but what about...

I am planing to buy my first amp and install it myself. my question is: the speakers are disconnected from the HU and connected only to the amp? if so, does the amp has to always be ON in order to listen to my music? is it fine if I use the old speaker wires to pull the new ones in order to reach the...

  • Need a compact and relatively inexpensive amp, speaker setup for a turntable.

I recently found a turntable that is at least probably 20-25 years old. However, I put a vinyl on it I had lying around and it still played. At that time I had it hooked up to the aux in/video rca's on a stereo in the living room. I had to crank it all the way up to even hear it and even then it was...

  • Jeep Liberty aftermarket component question

One of the front door speakers blew (not the tweeters but one of the woofers on the door). I know there are no direct replacements, so to benefit from better quality I was planning to get a new component system. There are pretty good systems for $150 but how can I replace the tweeters? They are underneath...

  • best sounding configuration of amps and subs

I'm wondering if anyone here has any experience installing car stereo systems and can tell me this. I recently had my system of 1x JL audio 1000/1 + 1x 12w& + Infinity 4 channel amp stolen and am looking for a new system. The car is wired with an HO alternator battery cap and 0/1 gauge wire and can...

  • What HiFi 2.0 means to me

I really love the new HiFi 2.0 movement here at Crutchfield. Helping people achieve and enjoy great sound is what we're all about, whether you're trying to do it in your house or in your car. And this building is full of people who are knowledgeable and passionate about sound. To me, HiFi 2.0 is a relative...

  • Better home audio, Tip#10: Biamp your speakers

Tip #10: Biamp your speakers. If you've purchased a home theater receiver in the last couple of years, it may have extra channels of amplifier power that you can put to use for better sound. That's because most newer receivers have seven amplifier channels, while many people only use five speakers in...

  • My Top 10 Car Audio Myths

    1) I don't need a subwoofer because I never listen to loud music, just classical and jazz. Subwoofers go great with heavy metal, rap, and other types of high-impact music, but they're not just for people who like to turn it up. In fact, a well-tuned subwoofer adds depth and richness to any type of music...

  • What's at the top of your wish list? (Here's what's on ours)

Naturally, people around here are always talking about the latest, greatest electronic gear. I have a long list of things I hope to own soon, and I sometimes wonder what my friends at work would love to have. Thanks to a recent informal, open-ended poll we took at Crutchfield, I was able to find out...
