Space required around HDTV

This question is answered

I'd like to put a new HDTV in my armoire (it DOES have a back). How much space is required on sides and top? What about mounting it over a wood-burning fireplace? I live in FL so I probably won't even use it much.

Thanks in advance!

  • I recommend at least a couple inches of space above the TV to let heat rise. TV's don't use a lot of power anymore, but it's still a good idea to have enough space to let heat escape and not cycle back into the TV. There is no need for the sides as long as you have enough room to easily fit the TV.

As for mounting above a fireplace, I do not see that being an issue especially with you being in Florida. I just wouldn't mount above a fireplace and recess into the wall. That could trap heat. HTH!
