Do you need $59 cables for the new 4 k tv's?

  • I just bought a Samsung 55" curved tv at Best buy. The salesman said I needed 2 HDMI intra high speed cables at $59 each. Nowhere do I see I need these expensive cables. Yes the tv is 4K so I ordered 2 high speed hdmi cables instead and plan to take these Best Buy cables back. What do you think, do I need these expensive cables or get other high speed cables on the internet?

  • Moved to TV forum.

As I understand it, you ordered the other cables already.

I would try the new cables and if they work okay, return the BB ones, otherwise, return the new ones.

  • Thanks, I'm going to try the ones from internet and take back the BB Cables.

  • That's a good idea. If you are connecting video sources that will be 1080p or less (Blu-ray player, HD cable/sat box, etc.) then any decent quality HDMI cables will do a good job.

For 4K video sources (of which there are very few) you'll want HDMI 1.4 (30 fps) or HDMI 2.0 (60fps) certified cables.

    Hope that helps.
